Viața Basarabiei (Newspaper, 1907)

Viața Basarabiei (The Life of Bessarabia) was a Bessarabian newspaper in Romanian language, published in Chișinău in 1907. The first issue of the newspaper was published on April 22, 1907. The purpose of the publication was to continue the cause of the closed newspaper Basarabia. The newspaper's editor was Alexis Nour. Viața Basarabiei was published in two versions: using the Cyrillic alphabet “for those who read Russian" and in Latin “for the general intelligent public in Bessarabia and in all countries inhabited by Romanians”. Both versions of the newspaper differed not only by script, but also by stylistics and content.

Împrejurările grele, prin care trecem acuma ne îngrijesc foarte mult. E foarte greu de a conduce o gazetă națională, cînd toată Rusia se află într-o fierbere politică, cînd dreptul hotărît al unei naționalități încă nici nu există. Fiecare pas al nostru, deși strict cultural, poate fi explicat ca nelegal și numai de aceea, că e făcut cu ajutorul unei limbi străine,— nu rusește...

and “peasant” version:

Ын греле времурь трэим ной акум, ши аста не пуне пе ной пе гындурь. Е фоарте греу де факут о газеты молдовеняскы, кынд дрептул нороаделор, кари локуеск ын Русія ынкы ну есте ку тотул хотэрыт. Фіе каре пас ал ностру деши курат пачник ши ку скоп де луминаря нородулуй, поате фи привит де уній ка чева фэры де леже; ши нумай пентру ачея, кы пасул ачеста есте факут ну пе лимба русаскы.

Only six issues of the newspaper were published. It is not known for certain what caused the closure of the newspaper: the intervention of the authorities or the lack of demand for it.
